Insurance for hirers

Insurance Information for Hirers

fully covered

We want you to enjoy a carefree holiday. Therefore, all vehicles on MyCamper come with appropriate insurance. Either you are insured using the Allianz-MyCamper insurance solution or using the insurance provided by the lessor. The method of insurance is shown in the vehicle profile on MyCamper. The insurance takes effect automatically, once you start your trip.

The camper is insured using Allianz-MyCamper insurance

Coverage

The Allianz-MyCamper insurance solution comprises the following levels of coverage: Third-party liability, partial and comprehensive insurance and gross negligence.

Excess for partial insurance per claim: CHF 500*

  • Third-party liability: covers damage caused by you as the lessee to someone else's vehicle or property.
  • Partial insurance: covers natural hazards, snow slide, theft, animal, glass, vandalism and assistance claims, as well as claims caused by falling objects (e.g. hail, falling snow, misappropriation, collision with animals, glass breakage)

In case of a claim

Report the event to Allianz by email, once you are back from your camping trip (except in case of liability being incurred and damage which prevents you from continuing your journey). Use the following email address for the loss report: mycamper@allianz-suisse.ch.

Allianz requires the following documents in the event of a claim:

  • Copy of the vehicle registration document
  • Driving licence of the driver
  • European accident report (a must in case of liability claims)

Inform the lessor of the Allianz claim number. The lessor will have the repairs carried out once the damage has been reported. The lessor will retain the deposit and get in touch with you once the damage has been corrected and reimburse you the difference, should any funds remain.

The camper is insured via the lessor’s insurance

Coverage

The vehicle profile on MyCamper tells you what insurance cover the camper has. Campers which are insured via the lessor’s insurance are covered as rental vehicles. In case of non-motorised campers (caravans), the liability is covered via the towing vehicle.

Area of applicability

As a rule, Europe and countries bordering the Mediterranean. For details, please see the general terms and conditions of insurance of the lessor’s policy.

In case of a claim

When contacting the insurance company, it is best to have the rental contract and handover report to hand. Here, you can find the details of the lessor and camper. Should this concern an accident involving a third party, please also have the European accident report to hand.

Inform the lessor of the insurance claim number. The lessor will have the repairs carried out once the damage has been reported. The lessor will retain the deposit and get in touch with you once the damage has been corrected and reimburse you the difference, should any funds remain.

Roadside assistance using ERV

Should the camper not already have roadside assistance or should your own insurance exclude rental vehicles, you can take out Europewide roadside assistance via our partner, the Europäische Reiseversicherung (ERV). The surcharge is CHF 30 per week and CHF 4 for each additional day.

Coverage

ERV assumes the costs in case of an accident, breakdown or theft within Europe. In each case of damage which must be compensated, an excess of 10% (minimum CHF 100) will be deducted from you as the lessee.

The following services are insured (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Towing and repairs up to CHF 400
  • Storage fees (boarding costs) up to CHF 300
  • Recovery of the camper up to CHF 2000
  • Delivery of replacement parts if these cannot be obtained from the location
  • Expert appraisal fees up to CHF 200 if the repair bill appears unjustified
  • Additional costs for continuing the trip, including accommodation, meals and drinks up to CHF 700 per person or, in case a rental vehicle is used, up to CHF 1000
  • Collection of the vehicle organised by ERV, should the vehicle not be able to be repaired within 48 hours.

The full-service package can be viewed in the General terms and conditions of insurance here. Link general terms and conditions of insurance

Area of applicability

The insurance is valid in Europe for the duration of the rental stated in the rental contract. The insurance cover starts, once the insured vehicle is outside of a zone of 50 kilometres linear distance from the collection location stated in the rental contract.

Excess insurance via ERV (Europäische Reiseversicherung)

Coverage

By taking out the excess insurance, the lessee can reduce the excess for comprehensive insurance claims relating to the rental vehicle (excluding inventory) by 10%. Therefore, in case of an insured event, ERV will pay 90% of the excess which is owed under the vehicle’s insurance. Any consequential costs such as loss of bonus, premium increase or loss of rental are excluded. The amount of the insurance cover depends on the respective excess. However, it is limited to a maximum of CHF 5000 per rental contract.

You can find detailed information in the General terms and conditions of insurance.

Area of applicability

The insurance applies to the vehicle rented by you as the lessee (policyholder) and runs for the duration of the rental in accordance with the rental contract.

Procedure

Should you take out the excess insurance in the booking process, you are still obliged to pay a deposit to the lessor. In this way, the lessor has security for damage which is not covered by the comprehensive insurance, such as inventory and payment of the excess. In case of a loss event, you are reimbursed the part of the excess by ERV.

In case of a claim

Please contact the claims line of ERV on +41 58 275 27 30 or schaden@erv.ch. Please have the following documents to hand:

  • Copy of the rental contract and proof of payment of the deposit
  • Policy number (is the same as the booking number on MyCamper). You can find the booking number in the rental contract
  • Original report of the incident (police report, accident report)
  • Copy of the final bill of the rental vehicle lessor
  • Bill which shows payment of the excess which has been charged
  • Payment details
